What are Reading Levels?

Overview

Every book in Lexxio can be read at more than one level. A Reading Level isn't a difficulty slider on the interface, it's a genuinely different translation: shorter sentences and simpler grammar at the low end, the author's original prose at the high end.

There are five, each its own translation, not a slider on top of one:

Level	What changes
Simple	Present and past tense only. Every event in the story stays, told the plainest way it can be.
Guided	Adds future tense and present perfect. Still everyday grammar, nothing compound.
Natural	Nothing cut or summarized. Keeps simple conditional, drops compound tenses.
Advanced	Every tense the author used, broken into shorter, more numerous sentences.
Faithful	The author's actual sentences, at full length and full difficulty.

Faithful isn't a graded level

The other four are written for learners. Faithful is the book itself; the "translation" is really just the original text (or, if you're reading into a foreign language, the closest full-fidelity rendering of it). It's only offered on books whose prose is dense enough to sit meaningfully above Advanced. A short, plainly-written book might not need a separate Faithful edition, since Advanced already matches it closely.

A note on Simple and Guided

At Simple and Guided, Lexxio is doing more than translating: it's adapting. Long sentences get split, subordinate clauses get flattened, and grammar the level doesn't cover yet gets rephrased. You'll see a small "Simplified adaptation" note next to the level picker as a reminder that some nuance and style is traded for readability at these two levels.
